张展，生于1983年，曾是一名律师，后因坚持关注社会公义和言论自由而转型为公民记者。她长期关注中国社会中的底层群体与不公正事件，并通过自媒体记录事实、发表意见。作为一名敢于发声的女性，她不仅承受着来自当局的压力，也常常面临监控、骚扰与威胁。

在中国极度压抑言论自由的环境中，张展选择了用手机与文字记录真相，这本身就是一种勇气，也是一种公民责任。

事件经过

2020年初，新冠疫情在武汉爆发，官方的封锁与信息不透明引发了大量社会恐慌。张展不顾个人安危，于2月前往武汉，以独立记者的身份，通过网络视频与文字报道，揭露了医院超负荷、民众生活困境、官员瞒报与防控措施混乱等情况。

她的报道突破了官方叙事，让外界得以看到疫情背后的真实景象，也让无数普通人感受到世界上还有人愿意记录他们的苦难。

然而，正是因为说出了真相，张展在2020年5月被上海警方抓捕，随后被以“寻衅滋事罪”起诉。她在狱中以绝食抗议审判不公，身体状况急剧恶化，却依旧坚持不屈服。

判决结果与持续打压

2020年12月28日，上海市浦东新区法院以“寻衅滋事罪”判处张展4年有期徒刑。消息传出后，国际社会震惊与谴责。联合国、欧盟以及国际人权组织多次要求中方立即释放张展，并指出对她的指控是对言论自由的粗暴践踏。

近日，外界再度传出消息：张展因同样的罪名再次面临指控。这意味着当局不仅没有停止打压，反而加重了迫害。她的健康状况长期令人担忧，家属多次呼吁给予她基本的医疗救治，但始终未获保障。

Support Zhang Zhan: A Citizen Journalist Who Sacrificed Her Freedom for the Truth

Zhang Zhan, born in 1983, was once a lawyer. Later, due to her persistent concern for social justice and freedom of expression, she transformed into a citizen journalist. She has long paid attention to marginalized groups and injustices in Chinese society, recording facts and sharing opinions through self-media. As a woman who dares to speak out, she not only endured pressure from the authorities but also frequently faced surveillance, harassment, and threats.

In an environment in China where freedom of speech is severely suppressed, Zhang Zhan chose to record the truth with her phone and words. This in itself is an act of courage, as well as a civic responsibility.

The Course of Events

At the beginning of 2020, when the COVID-19 outbreak erupted in Wuhan, official lockdowns and lack of transparency created widespread public panic. In February, Zhang Zhan, disregarding her personal safety, went to Wuhan as an independent journalist. Through online videos and written reports, she exposed overwhelmed hospitals, the struggles of ordinary citizens, official cover-ups, and chaotic prevention measures.

Her reporting broke through the official narrative, allowing the outside world to see the reality behind the pandemic and giving countless ordinary people the comfort of knowing that someone was willing to document their suffering.

However, precisely because she told the truth, Zhang Zhan was arrested by Shanghai police in May 2020 and later charged with “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” While in detention, she went on hunger strike to protest the unfair trial. Her health deteriorated rapidly, yet she remained unyielding.

Verdict and Ongoing Repression

On December 28, 2020, the Shanghai Pudong New Area People’s Court sentenced Zhang Zhan to four years in prison for “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” The news shocked and outraged the international community. The United Nations, the European Union, and multiple human rights organizations have repeatedly demanded her immediate release, stating that the charges against her constitute a blatant violation of freedom of expression.

Recently, reports have emerged again: Zhang Zhan is facing new charges under the same accusation. This shows that the authorities have not stopped the persecution but instead intensified it. Her health condition has long been a matter of grave concern. Despite repeated calls from her family for basic medical treatment, she has never been properly guaranteed.

Zhang Zhan is a true citizen journalist. As a woman, she bore the immense courage of exposing the truth. She did not fabricate false news, nor did she incite hatred—she merely revealed the hidden realities of the pandemic.

The imprisonment and suffering she has endured reflect the CCP’s fear of truth. A citizen who dares to face the darkness has been labeled a “criminal”—this is one of the greatest absurdities of our time.
